Robert F.
Gregory
January 16, 1932 – October 9, 2022
NORTH ANDOVER - Robert (DiGregorio) Gregory, age 90, a longtime resident of Groveland, MA, passed away on October 9, 2022, surrounded by family members. He was born to Joseph (DiGregorio) Gregory and Theresa (D'Amelio) Gregory on January 16, 1932 in Boston. Bob graduated from the former Stockbridge College in Amherst, MA. He was drafted into the Army in 1952 and originally trained as a combat medic in anticipation of deployment to the Korean War. The Army switched his assignment to have him train as a Veterinary Food Inspector and he was instead sent to post-war Germany to inspect food supplies for Allied Forces rebuilding Europe.
As fate would have it, Bob met the love of his life when he was buying a ticket for a dance on post from a beautiful WAC (Women's Army Corps) named Arzella "Artie" Barnard from Indiana. A whirlwind romance took place and they were married in January 1955 locally by the town's Burger Meister and then by an Army Priest at a full ceremony. Together, they celebrated over 67 years of marriage and had 5 children (Michael Gregory (and his wife, Karen) of Boise, ID. Robert (Bob) Gregory (and his wife, Sherry) of Lexington, Nebraska. Daniel Gregory (and his wife, Heather) of Westford, Massachusetts. Susan Gregory of Bradford, Massachusetts. Colleen (Gregory) Davis of Haverhill, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren (Sara Lynn Rygol, Stephanie Gregory, Lela Davis, Axel Davis, Luke Davis, Brianne Gregory, Sarah Lynn Ratliff, Chelsea Albright, Marcus Gregory, Victoria (Gregory) Bode, Christian Sewell, Mikayla (Gregory) Stillman, and David Gregory). His great-grandchildren include Zander and Avery Rygol, Caroline Ratliff, Callahan and Coral Albright, Isabelle Bowden, Isla Gregory and Harrison Bode. The family is awaiting the arrival of their 10th great-grandchild in December. He is survived by his younger brother, Edward (DiGregorio) Gregory of Wakefield, Mass. He was predeceased by his parents along with his older brother Anthony (DiGregorio) Gregory and sister Madeline (DiGregorio) Kostinden.
Bob was a sportsman who played football, hockey and basketball in school. He loved to hunt and fish as an adult. After relocating the family to Groveland, Massachusetts in 1961, he became a parishioner at St. Patrick's Church and sang in the choir. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and helped to build the former K of C Hall in Groveland. When Bob and Artie departed Germany to return to civilian life, Bob returned to Hoods Milk Company in Charlestown, Mass where he worked his way up to middle management of the operations over more than 50 years. He will be remembered as a family man, dedicated performer with various singing groups, fantastic father and a friend to all who met him.
Bob will be remembered at a gathering on Friday, October 21, 2022 at Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Following, he will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
