GROVELAND - Robert V. Carr, Sr., 87, longtime Groveland resident passed away peacefully on Monday evening, April 21, 2014 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born in Boston on January 16, 1927, son of late Victor and Marie (Whittaker) Carr. Raised in Milton and attended Milton High School where he excelled in cross country, track and field. Mr. Carr is a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII in the Military Police stationed in Paris. When he returned to this country, he completed his degree in Business Administration at Boston University, where he also was involved with athletics holding the record for the New England Mile Champion.
Mr. Carr leaves his loving wife Marie F. (O'Brien) Carr, after 62 years of marriage.
They lived in the Greater Boston area for several years until settling in Groveland in 1957 where they raised their family.
Mr. Carr was the founder of the firm which is now Carr, Staples and Accardi, CPA in Haverhill.
He was very active in the Town of Groveland serving on several different civic boards including the School Committee and Finance Committee. He was also the Past Commander of the Nathan M. Webster American Legion Post No. 248, Groveland; professional associations included, MA Association of Public Accountants and the National Society of Public Accountants; community activities included, Board of Directors at Pentucket Bank, founding member of the Adult Round Robin League at Cedardale, Coach and Treasurer of Groveland Little League, longtime friend and business associate of the Esty Family and the Ralph A. Esty and Sons Lumber Co., Groveland; longtime communicant of St. Patrick Church, Groveland; religious activities included Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society of St. Patrick Parish, St. Patrick Choir and St. Patrick Bowling League.
Mr. Carr's surviving family members in addition to his wife include, Robert Carr, Jr. of Groveland, Stephen Carr and wife Grace Vasta-Carr of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Paul Carr and wife Eileen of Nottingham, NH and Mary Sarah Carr and companion Glenn Smith of Florence; grandchildren, Michael Carr, David Carr, Jacob Carr and Megan Mack; numerous nieces and nephews; grandfather of the late Jennifer Carr.
His funeral will be held Friday morning, April 25, beginning in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, (Rte. 125), Bradford at 9:00 AM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 114 Center Street, Groveland at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow with U.S. Army Honors in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Manchester-by-the-Sea.
Visiting hours will be Thursday in the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
