WELLINGTON, ME: Robert J. Bailey, Jr., 54, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the home that he had built on the morning of March 15, 2008. He was born December 2, 1953 in Haverhill, MA one of six children of Robert J. Sr. and Marie Antoinette (McBride) Bailey.

Rob honorably served his country during the Vietnam era as a top level communication specialist with the United States Air Force. Following his discharge in November 1974, Rob turned his passion to woodworking and became a master carpenter. During the next 30 plus years he built many beautiful homes throughout New England.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Susan (Shottes) Bailey; seven children Sgt. 1st Class Joshua, US Army, Medic Specialist Ryder, US Army, Jeanne, Rachel, Joanna, Robert and Sarah, he was "Papa" to his twelve grandchildren; sisters Sandra, Joanne, Patty, and Donna; brother Ricky; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents.

Friends and family may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill, MA. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 471 Main Street, Haverhill with The Rev. Susan Ellery, officiating. Private burial service will be conducted at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampstead, NH. Memorial donations may be made to The American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006.
