HAVERHILL - Richard D. Nolan, 77, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on March 20, 2018 at High Pointe Hospice House surrounded by his family.
Richard was born on June 3, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Frank and Phyllis (Luzier) Nolan. He is survived by his wife, Paula, of Haverhill; daughters Katharine Kim and husband Seha of Haverhill, Kerry Minichiello and husband Mark of Newburyport, Rachelle McQuade and husband David of Meriden, CT and sons Paul Nolan of Wolcott, CT and Richard T. Nolan and wife Megan of Coventry, CT. He is also survived by his sister Francine Pelegano of Killingworth, CT and thirteen grandchildren Alexander, Derek and Evan Kim, Talia and Gianna Minichiello, Sarah and Maggie McQuade, Bonnie Nolan, and Makrina, Kasia, Carl, Katinka, and Marishka Nolan.
Richard proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962. He graduated from the University of Hartford with a BA and two Masters degrees, all in the field of Educational Administration. In addition, he earned a Certificate of Advanced Study in Education from the University of Bridgeport. He worked for many years as an Administrator of State and Federal Programs for the Bristol, CT public school system before accepting a position as Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Haverhill. He also served as a Director of Education for Veterans Administration New England based in Bedford, MA.
Richard enjoyed many hours aboard his boat, Music II, cruising the Merrimack River and taking her out to sea, and spent his earlier years enjoying the rocky waters of Flying Point, ME. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan, devoted to his team even after relocating to Massachusetts. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 25, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, Haverhill from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Services will be Monday in the funeral home at 10:00 AM. Burial with U.S. Marine Corps Honors follow in Linwood Cemetery. For guestbook, please visit www.driscollcares.com
