WEST NEWBURY, MA: Richard P. Hinton, 72, passed away on May 19, 2021 at High Pointe House in Haverhill. He was the husband of Marcia H. (Thompson) Hinton to whom he had been married for 38 years, and passed away in 2007.
Born in Hartford, CT on January 1, 1949, he was the son of the late Quenton D. and Sarah E. (Patterson) Hinton.
Upon graduating from Newburyport High School, Class of 1968, Richard entered the U.S. Navy and began a long and distinguished military career. After completion of his Navy commitment he enter the Army Reserve before joining the U.S. Army National Guard, and was discharged in 2005 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Richard worked at Lucent Technologies as a Composite Master Trades Person before retiring in 2002 following thirty years of service. He continued to word at Russell Orchard in Ipswich, and then ten years as custodian at the Newburyport Post Office Distribution Center. Besides being with his family he enjoyed collecting coins and stamps.
Richard is survived by his children; Richard G. Hinton of West Newbury, Timothy M. Hinton of Raymond, NH, Pauline J. Steer and her husband Jonathan of Plaistow, NH; brother, Quenton Hinton of CT, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John Hadley.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, May 28 th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill.
