HAVERHILL - Richard E. Driscoll, 84, longtime resident of Haverhill and Plaistow, NH, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, January 19, 2017.
Richard was born in Haverhill on August 25, 1932, loving son of F. Edward and Anna (Ray) Driscoll. He was a graduate of Haverhill High School Class of 1950, received his Bachelor's Degree from the former Lowell State Teachers College and received his Law Degree from Suffolk University. His professional career included working as a 5th grade school teacher in Salem, NH, Probation Officer in the Haverhill District Court from 1958 through 1972 and served as Chief Probation Officer until beginning his private law practice, a license still held. He enjoyed teaching law for many years as an adjunct professor at both Northeastern University and Northern Essex Community College.
He had sense of community and service being a member of the Saggahew Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Haverhill where he served as a Past Master as well as a member of the Shriners organization. He served as Town Treasurer for Salem, NH and current board member for Golden Hill Association in Plaistow, NH a community he was very proud of. Another accomplishment Richard enjoyed was being the Owner and Publisher of the Bingo Bugle Newspaper in NH, which he owned for 27 years; a newspaper that is still being read by thousands of bingo enthusiast throughout the State of NH. He and his wife enjoyed wintering in Clearwater Beach, FL for several years. Richard was a loving and caring man that had a special way about him and he will be greatly missed.
Richard's surviving family members include his cherished wife Joyce (Comley) of Plaistow, NH; loving children Richard Driscoll of Groveland, Patricia Walker and husband Matthew of Newburyport, Lynne Tabak of Lynn and Shelly Gosselin and husband Steve of Haverhill and Dana Connolly of FL; grandson Maxwell Walker; caring brother Robert Driscoll and wife Marie of Haverhill. Celebration of Richard's Life will be held on Saturday, January 28 in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, Haverhill from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Masonic Service at 3:30 PM.
