BELMONT, NH: Reina I. van Gennep, formerly of Haverhill, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Concord Laconia Hospital, Laconia, NH on March 18, 2022.
Born in Ten Boer, Groningen, Holland, on July 30, 1928, Reina was the first of seven children born to Roelf and Grietje Rusthoven.
Reina and Schelte were survivors of Nazi occupied Holland during WW ll. Following their marriage in 1953, they immigrated to Blyth, Ontario, Canada, and in 1962 immigrated to Haverhill, MA where they raised their family.
In 1963 Schelte and Reina became members of First Presbyterian Church in Haverhill with Reina continuing her membership until her passing. She was actively involved in the Women's Guild, the church choir, and attended church services via Zoom. Schelte and Reina loved taking daily rides to the ocean, mountains and surrounding area near their home.
For years Reina was an active knitter finally specializing in hats in her later years. Hundreds of hats were given to local charities, family and friends. Reina made newborn knitted hats for donation to the local hospital nursery.
Reina was predeceased by her husband Schelte, and is survived by her youngest brother, Gerrit Rusthoven and his wife Henny from Assen, Holland, and their children and grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughter, Margareth Prue, and her significant other Frederick Meredith from Belmont, NH, and her daughter, Melissa Knight and husband Ken of Newton, NH; son, Garet van Gennep and his wife Maureen from Salisbury, NH; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Friday, March 25 th at 11:15, at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill with internment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the funeral from 9:00 to 11:00am. In lieu of flowers donations in Reina's name may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 346 Broadway, Haverhill, MA 01832.
