Haverhill: Raymond I. Noyes, 80, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died April 6, 2010 at Merrimack Valley Hospital.
Born in Haverhill on February 9, 1930, Mr. Noyes was the son of the late Harlan S. and Harriett (Beatty) Noyes.
Following his graduation from Haverhill High School, Class of 1947, he entered Tufts University where he majored in chemistry and minored in physics. After graduating he participated in summer studies at Tufts, Oberlin and Wesleyan. Raymond entered the University of Pennsylvania where he studied mathematics and physics, and earned his master's degree in education.
While in high school Raymond was a member of the band and orchestra, and on occasion played with George Kay's band. He continued playing in college as a member of Tuft's band. Although he enjoyed all genres of music he had a particular passion for jazz. Raymond was employed at a civil engineering firm, and taught mathematics and physics at area high schools including Georgetown and Westford, and Boston State College.
Raymond is survived by his sister, Judith Noyes of Haverhill; sister-in-law Pauline, and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Alden Noyes. The funeral service at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill will be private, as well as, the interment at Linwood Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Haverhill High School Band, 137 Monument Street, Haverhill, MA 01830.
