Obituary

Ralph D. Cusano, 87, lifelong Haverhill resident passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, at Lawrence General Hospital, surrounded by family.

He was born in Exeter, NH on August 15, 1938, son of the late Angelo and Adrianne (St. Laurent) Cusano and was a graduate of Haverhill High School. After graduation he served in the US Navy on the Aircraft Carrier Essex. After the Navy he attended drafting school to pursue a career as a draftsman. He worked at G.E. in Lynn Massachusetts designing jet engines for the military for over 30 years.

Ralph met and fell in love with Marilyn Kydd, his beloved wife of close to 30 years.

Ralph was a member of the former St Rita’s parish where he taught CCD for over 14 years. He would later attend West Congregational Church in Haverhill where he would continue teaching Sunday School. One of Ralph’s passions was playing the Trumpet. He was a member of the Sons of Italy Drum and Bugle Corps where he played bugle and enjoyed playing at all the Feasts in the North End in Boston. He also loved playing with his band the Washington Street Connection.

Ralph loved gardening, which was apparent when you drove into his driveway and saw his elaborate flower gardens that would eventually earn him the Garden of the month award. It was hard work but very therapeutic for him. He also loved music and dancing at one of his favorite spots the Continental on Route 1 in Saugus.

He loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed. Ralph is survived by his son Michael Cusano and wife Maureen and his daughter Melissa Sharpe and her husband Ben. He is also survived by his four grandchildren Benjamin, Audrey, Jack, and William. He leaves behind several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marilyn and his sister Carole Azzarito.
