Rachel Hanako
Kurashima
May 12, 1936 – May 5, 2026
Rachel H. Kurashima, 89, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable hugs. Affectionally known as “Rach,” she was born in Waipahu, Hawaii, the youngest of a large and loving family, and touched everyone she met with her warmth and kindness.
Rachel proudly served in the United States Army from 1957-1961. She later worked for 30 years at Lucent Technologies, where she was respected for her dedication, professionalism, and friendly nature.
A devoted mother, Rachel is survived by her daughter, Darbie, her sister, Betsy, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends who cherished her dearly.
She loved to travel, with Alaska and Hawaii cruises being among her favorites. She enjoyed gardening, action movies, and every Marvel Avengers film. A passionate fan of women’s basketball, she followed both college and professional teams, cheering on the UCONN Huskies, CT Sun, NY Liberty and Las Vegas Aces. She also had a lifelong love for handbags, especially Coach bags and Vera Bradley. Some of her simple pleasures included spam, rice, macaroni salad, egg foo young and chocolate ice cream.
Rachel’s special gifts were her warmth and joy. She had a laugh that made others smile and hug that made you feel instantly loved. She lived life with an open heart and genuine affection for everyone around her.
Services will be held at a later date to celebrate her life. Her memory and the joy she brought will live on forever in the hearts of family, friends and all who were lucky enough to know her. Arrangements made by Driscoll Funeral Home, Haverhill. For guestbook, visit www.driscollcares.com
