Haverhill: Omar E. Tilton, 83, died Saturday at Merrimack Valley Hospital. Mr. Tilton was the husband of Shirley R. (Carr) Tilton.

Mr. Tilton was born in Boston April 27, 1924. He enlisted in the Navy in 1941 after attending Haverhill Trade School and was discharged in 1945 as a Shipfitter Second Class having served in the Asian, European and African Theaters. In continuing his education he attended the Vesper George School of Art. After working 36 years as a set-up machinist for AT&T he retired in the spring of 1988. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church and had attended the Alliance Church, member of Saggehew Lodge A.F. & A.M., and the Civil Air Patrol. Mr. Tiltons neighbors will remember the countless hours he spent as a landscape gardener at his home, and his interests also included carpentry and woodworking.

Beside his wife of 60 years his survivors include his son Omar E. Tilton, Jr.; daughter Valerie Tilton, all of Haverhill; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several cousins.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral Thursday 11:00 a.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery will be private. Calling hours Wednesday 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
