HAVERHILL - Nicholas "Nick" Matseas, 87, of Haverhill, fell asleep into the Lord after a short illness on Friday evening, September 7, 2012 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill.
He was born in Methuen on August 27, 1925, son of the late James and Alice (Coronios) Matseas. He attended Methuen Schools, and was a graduate of the Edward Searles High School, Methuen.
Mr. Matseas is a Veteran and a Purple Heart recipient having served in the United States Army during World War II. Longtime proprietor of Bannons, Olympia Square, Haverhill.
Mr. Matseas is survived by his son Paul Fay Matseas, sister, Dorothy Collier of California, six grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Monday morning, September 10, in the Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter Street, Haverhill at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Mill Street, Haverhill. Visiting hours will precede the Funeral Service in the Church beginning at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend. Arrangements under the care of the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street (Rte. 125), Bradford (978) 374-0000.
Contributions in Mr. Matseas's memory may be made to Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter Street, Haverhill, MA 01830.
