HAVERHILL - Nicholas "Niko" Gavrielides, 87, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 24, 2014 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Siberia, Russia on July 16, 1926, son of the late George and Kalliopi Gavrielides. At the age of 12, he immigrated to Greece, where he later married his late wife of 55 years, Evmorfia "Foula" (Meltsakos) Gavrielides.
Mr. Gavrielides was employed by the former Borden Chemical of No. Andover for 26 years until his retirement.
His interests included gardening, home projects and most of all, spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.
He was a devoted member of the Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, Haverhill.
His surviving family members include his cherished daughters, Kalliopi Samardelis and her husband James Samardelis of Goffstown, NH and Despina Katsikis and her husband Stamatios Katsikis of Pelham, NH; granddaughters Alethea Lacerte and her husband Michael Lacerte, Christina Samardelis, Demetra Katsikis, and Nicoletta Katsikis; several brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews; loving husband of the late Evmorfia "Foula" Gavrielides who passed on March 26, 2013.
His funeral will be held Thursday morning, March 27, beginning in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main St, Bradford, at 10:00 AM. Funeral Service in the Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter Street, Haverhill at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Mill Street, Haverhill. Calling hours will be Wednesday in the Driscoll Funeral Home from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
Courtesy local transportation to the visitation will be provided on request by calling Patrick Driscoll at (978) 374-0000.
