Michael Therriault, 74, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, passed away on August 6, 2026.

Michael was born on May 11, 1952, in Lowell, Massachusetts, to Irmgard (Haack) Therriault and Irrene Therriault. He made Haverhill his home for nearly 50 years and was married to his wife, Donna (West) Therriault, for 50 years this upcoming November.

Michael spent much of his professional life caring for others. He began his nursing career at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport in 1973 and later joined Merrimack Valley Hospital, where he served as an overnight shift nursing supervisor before retiring in 2014. His work reflected qualities that were important to him throughout his life: showing up for the team around him, helping others when they needed it, and treating people without judgment. Before beginning his nursing career, Michael also owned both a successful pet shop and a security business.

Michael loved the ocean and was happiest on the water. He spent many weekends boating and fishing aboard his 23-foot Mako, the Donna Jean, named for his wife and docked in Newburyport. He especially enjoyed competing in Mako Marine fishing tournaments with his daughter, Rachael.

Some of his children’s fondest memories of their younger years came from the activities Michael shared with them. He coached his son Andrew’s mites hockey team as well as his Pioneer baseball team, was a familiar presence at Rachael’s soccer and softball games throughout school, and taught both Andrew and Rachael to ski.

Michael and Donna enjoyed many trips together, including time in Lincoln, New Hampshire; Camden, Maine; and Fort Myers Beach, Florida, as well as trips and weekends spent with friends.

A lifelong animal lover, Michael had a particular affection for German Shepherds, of which the family welcomed many throughout their lives. He was also an avid reader and deeply proud of his German heritage. He maintained relationships with family overseas throughout his life, and visits from relatives from Germany to the family home in Haverhill were always memorable occasions.

Michael will also be remembered for his sense of humor, his stories, and his ability to make people laugh. He valued hard work, connecting with his patients and colleagues, and lending a hand to those around him, and those qualities left an impression on many of the people who knew and worked alongside him.

Michael is survived by his wife, Donna; his son, Andrew Therriault and his wife, Julia, of East Boston, Massachusetts; his daughter, Rachael Bator and her husband, Matt, of Stratham, New Hampshire; his sister, Annette Weicherz; his brother-in-law, Ric West of Haverhill; and his sister-in-law, Gail Therriault of Methuen.

He also leaves behind his nephews, Ryan West and his wife, Michelle, of Magnolia, Texas; Devin West and his wife, Taylor, of Haverhill; Timothy Therriault; Thomas Therriault; and Matthew Therriault; his niece, Stephany Noel; his great-nephews, Conner West, Tucker West and Carter West; and his first cousin, Andre Haack and his wife, Andrea, of Berlin, Germany.

Michael was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Daniel Therriault and Norman Therriault.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 12, in Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, Haverhill from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
