HAVERHILL - Matthew J. Wachowiak, Sr., 57, of Haverhill, passed away on May 24.

Born on June 17, 1959 in Springfield, MA to Gloria and the late Melvin J. Wachowiak Sr., Matt grew up in Enfield, CT and graduated from Enrico Fermi High School. He attended the University of Connecticut and graduated with a B.S. from the University of Massachusetts and a Masters from Lesley University, and enjoyed describing himself as a life-long learner. He was most recently employed by IBM as a Software Engineer with the Watson Group.

Matt approached his entire life with a positive attitude and his sense of humor and compassion touched those who knew him. He is survived by his two children, Matthew Jr of Haverhill and Sarah of Methuen; his mother, Gloria Wachowiak; two brothers, Christopher (Nancy), and Carl Wachowiak; one sister, Mary (Jeff) Ballachino; a sister-in-law Joanne; many nieces and nephews, and a large group of supportive friends. Matt was predeceased by his brother Melvin Wachowiak Jr.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Matt's life on Saturday, June 10 from 11:00 to 3:00 PM in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, Haverhill, MA 01835. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Matthew's memory to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Avenue, Haverhill, MA 01830.
