Obituary

SALEM, NH: Mary E. (Merrill) Miller, 85, died peacefully on March 5, 2011 at her daughters home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Miller was the wife of the late Herman L. Miller.

Born in Haverhill on January 16, 1926, Mrs. Miller was the daughter of the late Harry and Florence C. (Hutt) Merrill.

Mrs. Miller attended school in Haverhill. In addition to raising and caring for her family she worked for many years as a domestic for several residents of Methuen before retiring. She was a thirty year member of the Riverside Memorial Church and sang in the choir. Music played an important role in her life, and she was a member of the vocal group "Inspirations" which performed at various nursing homes. She was a member of the Women's Guild. She was an avid reader and enjoyed solving word search puzzles.

She is survived by her children, Paul L. Miller and his wife Tammy of Plaistow, NH; daughters, Jean A. Cheney and her husband Brian of Newton, NH, and Mary Jane "MJ" Miller-Markins and her husband Lee of Salem, NH; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Harry Merrill of Haverhill, Richard Lancaster of Orleans, VT; sister, Dorothy C. Merrill of Methuen, MA. She was the sister of the late Robert C. Merrill, Earl "Bob" Merrill, and Shirley Ann Malcolm.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday, March 9th at 6:00 pm, at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Calling hours are Wednesday from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, and 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen will be at a later date.
