Obituary

HAVERHILL - Mark Joseph Jamal Cain, 44, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at the Lahey Medical Center, Burlington, surrounded by his loved ones.

Mark was born in Stamford CT. In Stamford he first learned to play ice hockey which he continued to do throughout school years. He coached a team in Horseheads, N.Y., after high school. He loved the speed and chase of the puck across ice. He tried other sports but they were too slow for his taste. He went to Evangelical Congregational Church and learned about the love of Jesus. He carried that love throughout his life, often saying "Praise the Lord! And God bless you" to people.

As a teenager he moved with his family to Revere, MA, where he again gained many friends at school and enjoyed being close to the beach. He became an avid skate boarder and would go to Boston with friends to show off their cool skills and enjoy the city. He was talented at hacky sack. Family camping in New Hampshire was always an enjoyable time for Mark as he loved being outside in nature.

Mark was a wonderful, thoughtful brother and often would play his guitar and sing for his siblings, take them to buy candy and sweets, or just spend time with them to their delight.

Mark had many talents. He was a great comedian and even did some stand up in Boston a few times. He entertained us by doing vocal imitations of Elvis and Frank Sinatra making everyone laugh and ask for more! He enjoyed drawing, sketching, and writing stories. He also learned to crochet and made blankets for his younger brother and sister. He designed and made crocheted hats that were sold in Chelsea. He loved music, especially Bob Marley and spent time occasionally putting together his own music and songs.

People would often comment on his handsome appearance, his smiling face, and the gentle, kind person he was to everyone. Of course, Mark was a prankster too and would sometimes push beyond limits, but that made him even more colorful and full of life to everyone.

Sadly, mental illness took the person we knew and loved as our "Mark" oftentimes far from us as an adult. Sometimes his life became very difficult and hard for him and those who loved him. However, for the past 10 years he enjoyed living in a safe environment and being close to nature. He had a sweetness and gentleness about him in his daily life, trying to live in peace.

We, his family love him. God loves him and we know that he is with the LORD, fully at the peace, love, and joy of God, renewed in spirit and body.

He leaves us behind for but a while, his mother, Sue Ellen Oblom, his step-father Chuck Oblom, his father John Cain, his grandmother Josephine York and his siblings: Gabriel Cain, Stephanie Cain, Shawn Hib and her husband Houn Hib, Candy Cain, Ian Cain, Suzanne Oblom, David Oblom and his wife Rachel Oblom, Erin Cain-Carey, Elizabeth Haynes, and Liam Cain.

We thank all who loved Mark and our family for their thoughtfulness during this time. Let us all remember to encourage one another to always demonstrate active love to one another, as life is unpredictable and oftentimes too short here on this earth. God bless you.
