Obituary

Haverhill: Marilyn F. (Durant) Cooke, 86, died Sunday evening at Anna Jaques Hospital. Mrs. Cooke was the wife of the late Walter R. Cooke.

Born in Haverhill January 23, 1921, Mrs. Cooke was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Hilda A. (Johnson) Durant.

Marilyn was a graduate of Groveland High School class of 1938. She worked for the Social Security Administration in Haverhill for thirty years until her retirement 1975. Upon her and Walters retirement they spent fifteen years vacationing in Florida during the winter until Walters death in 1994 after forty-one years of marriage. Marilyn enjoyed reading and following her grandchildren to their many activities. She will be sorely missed by her son and family.

Marilyn is survived by her son Richard M. Cooke and his wife Stephanie (Smith); grandchildren Cameron G. and Channing S. Cooke all of Haverhill; her close cousin Emily "Betty" Shanahan of Haverhill; sisters-in-law Mary Walsh-Durant of Peabody, Marilyn (Cooke) Cull of Dorchester; brothers-in-law James I. "Bud" Cooke of Davie, FL, D. Allen Cooke and his wife Marge of Lake Placid, FL, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Charles W. "Bud" Durant.

Friends are invited to the funeral Thursday 10:00 A.M. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Interment at Linwood Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Port Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, 113 Low Street, Newburyport, MA 01950.
