Louis (Gene
Fedele
July 29, 1941 – May 5, 2026
Louis (Gene) Paul Fedele of Tewksbury, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, following an acute decline in health due to complications from Wegener’s Disease (GPA). True to his nature, Lou’s characteristic pride and determination strengthened his resolve to maintain his independence and self-guided choices until the very end.
Born in 1941, Lou was the only child of the late Mary (DeCampo) Fedele of Somerville and Raymond (Erasmo) Fedele of Gaeta, Italy. The cornerstone of Lou’s life was his 54-year marriage to his beloved wife, Rosalie Susan (DeAmato) Fedele, who predeceased him in 2017. Their story began as teenagers at a North Cambridge Catholic dance and grew into a beautiful life together, raising their family in Arlington, Massachusetts. Lou and Rosalie shared a love of family, entertaining, tennis, bowling, golf, skiing, and traveling.
A proud alumnus of Matignon High School, Lou pursued his passion for healthcare at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and the University of Rhode Island, becoming a dedicated registered pharmacist. In the 1970s, he was the proprietor of Belle Apothecary in Arlington, where he embraced his role and became an active and valued member of the community. His long and respected career also included work at several local pharmacies and a brief period at Massachusetts General Hospital. Later in life, as a patient at MGH, he took great pride in making sure the staff knew he was one of their own.
Beyond his professional life, Lou was a gifted handyman. He famously transformed the interior of his family’s Cape house on White Island Lake Shores from a simple “shell” into a warm and welcoming home. Rarely seen without a project in his hands, he took tremendous pride in his extensive tool collection. Among his family’s fondest memories are midnight drives to the Cape in his black stick-shift Volkswagen Bug after a long day of work.
Lou was a man of tradition who never missed an opportunity to dress his best. “Ensemble” was one of his favorite words, and he amassed an extensive tie collection ranging from holiday motifs and cartoon characters to timeless classics. He delighted in passing many of those ties down to his grandsons during their years at Belmont Hill.
An avid sportsman, Lou grew up playing hockey and later brought his own young family to Monotomy Rocks each Sunday to skate and play pickup hockey. He coached his son’s hockey teams and later became a passionate supporter of his grandsons from the stands. During the winters, he spent countless hours creating and maintaining a backyard ice rink for his children, extended family, friends, and neighbors to enjoy.
His love for golf remained lifelong. Lou and Rosalie eventually moved to the Tewksbury Country Club community, where the course sat just beyond their backyard. He shared his enthusiasm for the game in his own unique way — collecting and meticulously sorting lost golf balls by type, packing them into FedEx boxes, and generously gifting them to family and friends.
Lou also loved music and freestyle ballroom dancing. Together, he and Rosalie were affectionately known as the “Jitterbug King and Queen” at weddings and family gatherings. The Rat Pack era was his favorite, though he appreciated any music with enough rhythm to dance to.
Education was deeply important to him, and he took immense pride in seeing his three children — and later his first three grandchildren — graduate from college. Samantha, his fourth grandchild, shared a particularly close bond with him reminiscent of her connection with “Mimi,” and she will miss her Papa dearly. He also cherished his youngest granddaughter, Emilia, affectionately known as “Emmy,” whose athleticism and artistic talents brought him great joy and pride.
For the past five years, Lou was grateful for the companionship of his dear friend Susan Marresse, whom he met at a local seniors dance. Together they enjoyed long conversations, dinners, social gatherings, day trips, and holidays.
He is survived by his loving children and their spouses, Robert L. Fedele and his wife Karen, Deborah Fedele Folsom and her husband Gregory, and Laura Fedele Emery. He was the beloved grandfather of Christopher and his wife Meredith, Jonathan, Caroline, Samantha, and Emilia.
The family will honor Lou’s memory with private church and burial services. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lou’s memory may be made to the Vasculitis Foundation here.
