"Tena" (Lamb) Hartley

MARLBOROUGH, MA: Levona L. "Tena" (Lamb) Hartley, 94, died peacefully in her sleep on September 16, 2011 with her loving daughters by her side. She was the wife of the late Donald Tomlins Hartley who died in 2002.
Born in North Andover, MA on August 21, 1917, she was the daughter of the late James H. Lamb and Levona (Lamprey) Lamb.
Tena graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1935, and continued her education at Framingham State Teacher's College graduating with a BA in Education in 1939. She began her teaching career in a one-room school house in Vermont. During WWII she worked for the War Department in Washington, DC where she rose from Junior Clerk to Section Chief supervising the office producing allotment checks for the soldier's dependents. After raising her family Tena returned to eaching for a while before working for the Census Bureau and later the IRS in Albany, NY. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and enjoyed spending time with family.
Tena is survived by her children, Jane McDonnell and her husband Eric of Centerville, VA, Joanne Fitzgerald and her Husband Kevin of Middleboro, MA, Diane Danley and her husband Brian of Framingham, MA; grandchildren, Kevin, Steven, Michelle, Keith and Devlin. She is also survived by Donald's daughter Beth Haugeto and her husband G. Robert of Newton, NJ; grandchildren, Noelle, Kristen, Tricia, Karen and Megan.
Family and friends are invited to the memorial service on Thursday, September 29, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill, MA. Interment at Maplewood Cemetery will be private. Donations in her memory may be made to the Independent Association of Framingham State Alumni (IAFSA), Alumni House, 42 Adams Road, Framingham, MA 01702.
