Obituary

HAVERHILL: Judith E. Flatt Remington, 86, died February 2, 2020 in the comforting and caring residence of High Pointe Hospice House of Haverhill, Massachusetts.
Judith was the mother of Roger Remington of La Ceiba, Honduras, and the Reverend Melissa E. Remington of Atkinson, NH, formerly of Charleston, W.Va.
Born to Ethel and Clarence Flatt in Carlinville, Illinois in 1933, Judith graduated from Carlinville High School in 1951, where she did drawings and caricatures for the student newspaper.
She furthered her interest in art while visiting her father in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, after high school. Her father tutored Judith in his art studio, organizing her first art show of 10 paintings.
Judith entered nursing school, but her passion was pursuing her art. She leaves behind scores of brilliant and colorful paintings. Another passion was a love for cats, and she fostered every feline who needed her.
Judith spent much of her adult life in Des Moines, Iowa, where in addition to raising her children, she was an artist, entrepreneur and activist for civil and women's rights.
In addition to Roger and Melissa, Judith is survived by brothers, John Flatt of Laguna Niguel, California and Daniel Flatt, of Williamson, N.Y.; grandchildren Jessica Knauf of Dover, N.H., Theodore Knauf and Roger Knauf of Covington, Kentucky, Christopher Remington of La Ceiba, Honduras; and great grandson Aidan Knauf of Dover, N.H.
A celebration of Judith's life will take place Saturday, February 15th, 1:30 p.m. at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 187 East Road, in Hampstead, N.H., with Reverend Zac Harmon presiding.
In honor of her passion for animals, the family asks that memorial donations be made to PopeMemorialHumaneSociety/Cocheco Valley of Dover, N.H.
Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill, MA is in charge of arrangements. Online condolence may be sent to www.dcsfuneralhome.com
