HAVERHILL - Dr. Joseph Nicolosi, 61, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 25, 2019 in Haverhill.

Joe's prodigious and precocious intellect earned him a scholarship to Phillips Academy Andover at the age of 14, which he attended for four years as a day student and was loved for his gregarious, generous nature and the fleeting but redemptive hours of liberty he was able to afford his boarding school friends by means of his cherished Caspian Blue Mustang fastback. He ran cross country, rowed crew, was on the riflery team, performed in theater arts, and excelled scholastically across the spectrum from the hard sciences to the Humanities.

His eclecticism was in further evidence at Dartmouth College, where he doggedly pursued a pre-Med curriculum under an English Literature major. He was a DJ on the campus radio station and a member of Sigma Epsilon Fraternity, where he was known and remembered with the greatest affection for his humor, affability, and terrible taste in music. All this he immediately afterwards took with him to medical school. The man he grew to be was altogether admirable in every dimension. He became a doctor and devout Christian. Working in a Texas bordertown hospital, he was always the first to step up whenever disasters struck, locally or anywhere in the world; through such platforms as Project Hope and Mercy ships, "Dr. J" would hop on a helo and get to where he could administer to the sick and injured. He was a vigorous (and anonymous) donor to the Phillips Academy's LCDR Erik S. Kristensen USN's Memorial and Scholarship Fund, as he was to American Military Veteran's Support groups everywhere. He also retained his lifelong enthusiasm for expert firearms marksmanship, hunting, and the great Texas outdoors.

His friends and family are consoled in their grief and loss by knowing that, with the life he lived, the Faith he kept, and the depth and warmth of his great heart, that he is now in God's embrace for eternity. Everyone's lives were ennobled by knowing him.

Joseph was a great friend and colleague to many of us. He was a well respected anesthesiologist who worked at many locations around the metroplex. He has touched the lives of every person that has had the pleasure of meeting him. Joe loved the outdoors and Texas. He would often say "I was born a Texan, just not in Texas." He enjoyed hunting, shooting, barbecuing, and spending time with friends and family. Family was very important to Joe. He will be missed.

Survived by his sister Maria Morris of Haverhill, MA; niece and nephew Catherine and Frederick Morris; close friends Brian Dulock and Harry Flynn; many dear friends and colleagues.
