Cascone

LAWRENCE - Joseph L. Cascone, 93, of Lawrence, passed away at home on March 8, 2015.
Son of the late Gaetano and Antoinetta (DeQuattro) Cascone, he born in Lawrence and grew up on a family farm located on Oak Street in Methuen.
In 1943, he entered the U.S. Army. In early 1945, he deployed to Europe and served with Headquarters Co., 26th Tank Battalion, 16th Armored Division as a Heavy Truck Driver. He crossed Germany, and in the final days of the war, entered Czechoslovakia. He attained the rank of PFC.
He later met and married his first wife Lena. He was employed by United Liquors of Lawrence, and was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He retired in August of 1981.
In 1996, he achieved his GED from the Lawrence Adult Learning Center becoming, at the time, the oldest graduate at age 75. He enjoyed ballroom dancing, where he met his second wife Florence, and his many Cadillac cars over the years. He also traveled and kept a garden at his home. In his later years he abstained from red meats and followed a more vegetarian life style.
He is survived by his brother, David, of Las Vegas, NV, two nieces, Carole and Joan of Sarasota, FL and two nephews, Robert Cooney of Manchester, NH and Richard Cooney of Methuen.
Catholic Burial Rites will be offered graveside at Bellevue Cemetery, Lawrence, on Thursday afternoon, June 25 at 1:00 PM.
