John C. Roberts

John C. Roberts, 91, of Haverhill, passed away on July 13, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born in Haverhill, MA on June 23, 1935, to the late Theodore and Catherine (Murphy) Roberts and was a graduate of Haverhill High School Class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1958 and was stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska, as a specialist 4th class.

After the service, he was employed at Lucent (Western Electric) as a layout operator for 32 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Communication Workers of America (CWA) and the Pioneers. John enjoyed landscaping, photography, cooking, and hunting trips to Maine, but he especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends, in gatherings large or small, whether at coffee breaks, hosting cookouts and holidays, or simply to visit and share stories. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend and will be sadly missed.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Arline M. (Spurling), his son, John J. Roberts and his wife, Jane, of Reading, MA, his daughter, Teresa A. Chechowitz and her husband, Timothy, of Haverhill, MA, and his daughter, Donna M. Roberts, of Haverhill, MA. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Louis P. Roberts and his partner, Mary Quigley, of Malden, MA; Adam P. Roberts, of Reading, MA; Zachary J. Chechowitz and his wife, Sarah, of Ipswich, MA; and Taylor E. Chechowitz, of Haverhill, MA, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his siblings, Eleanor Canney, Arthur Roberts, Dorothy Saulnier, Theodore “Joey” Roberts, Margaret ”Peg” Eason, Edmund Roberts, and William Roberts.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 20, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 21, in St. John the Baptist Church, 110 Lincoln Avenue, Haverhill, beginning at 10:30 AM. Interment with U.S. Army Honors will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shiners Children's.
