HAVERHILL - John J. (Jack) Casey of the Bradford section of Haverhill, passed away on Thursday morning, January 17, 2013 at his residence . Jack was born in Haverhill to John and Vivian (Fuller) Casey. He graduated from Haverhill High in 1959 and from Boston College in 1963. He owned D.J. Casey Paper Co., an icon in downtown Haverhill. Jack led the movement to revitalize the downtown Haverhill business district when he rehabbed an 1858 mill building into Franklin Block. Franklin Block housed Casey Paper and numerous other small businesses.
He was active in many local activities and boards which focused on enriching Haverhill including, Haverhill Foundation, Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce, Washington Street Historic District, Shamrock Associates and Septemberfest. He was a member at Cedardale Athletic Club for 40 years. He had many hobbies but especially loved traveling to Anguilla, Saratoga and Vermont and spending time with his family and friends.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Caryn (Marshall) Casey; his three children, Karen Gotschall and her husband Garth, Deirdre Casey and her husband Carl Cacho-Negrete and Jayme Casey and his wife Kerry. He was Papa to his adoring grandchildren, Marcy, Jennifer, Devyn, Tyler, Griffin, Riley, Ceiligh and Sadie. He leaves many loving family members including the Marshall and Mello families and countless other caring friends.
Funeral Services will be held, MONDAY morning, January 21, beginning in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, Bradford at 11:00 AM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 So. Main Street, Bradford at Noon. Interment will follow in Harmony Cemetery, Central Street, Georgetown. Visiting hours will be held SATURDAY, January 19 in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street (Rte. 125), Bradford, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Courtesy local transportation to the visitation will be provided on request by calling Patrick Driscoll at 978-374-0000. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jack's memory may be made to All Care Hospice, 210 Market Street, Lynn, MA 01901 or to MGH Lung Cancer Research Fund, 165 Cambridge Street, Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114.
