HAVERHILL - John Eliopoulos, 64, of Haverhill and Ogunquit, ME, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 11, 2016.

He was born on May 19, 1951 in Haverhill, cherished son of the late Menelaus and Catherine (Linchy) Eliopoulos. John is a graduate of Haverhill High School class of 1969. He received his Bachelor's Degree of Education from Suffolk University and his Masters Degree of Education from Plymouth State University.

John had an exciting life that included world travel, a great circle of friends, activities with boats, campers, and a beautiful house blocks from the beach in Ogunquit, ME. He also enjoyed spending time at his condo in Lighthouse Point, FL. John was the kind of guy that played loud disco music as he drove this year's new car.

For many years John owned a business in Hampton, NH and took an active role in the Hampton Beach Chamber of Commerce. During that time, he continued his education and found the career he was designed to pursue as a teacher at Spaulding High School in Rochester, NH. He ran an alternative program for teens that needed to be offered a unique way of learning. He was lovingly referred to as "Mr. E" from students and parents who were grateful to have such a talented individual that was focused on helping students graduate from high school.

Friends and family were the center of his world. He could talk on the phone or in person for hours on end entertaining people with stories that were always based on fact, humor and maybe a bit of exaggeration to keep things entertaining.

John's energy will be missed by those who loved him. He was one of a kind and will never be forgotten.

His surviving family members include his loving sister, Stella Eliopoulos of Haverhill; cousin, Mary Papoutsy and husband Christos and their children, Andrea, Mikel and Angela of Rye, and their grandchildren, Austin, Maria, Lucy, Christos and Roman; cousin, Theodore Papoutsy of Rye, NH, Judi DeJaco and husband Michael of Florence, KY and James Linchy of Florida; as well as many caring friends in his life.

Visiting hours will be Friday, April 15 in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, Haverhill from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. John's Funeral Service will be held Saturday morning in the Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter Street, Haverhill at 11:00 AM. Please meet at the church, parking in the rear. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
