John “Jack” Vincent Drinan, Jr., 76, passed away on May 16, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 4, 1950, he was raised in Belmont, MA by his parents, John and Louise, and graduated from Belmont High School Class of 1967.
In 1969, John enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country for 25 years, including service as a Vietnam Veteran. Throughout his naval career, he traveled extensively around the world and was stationed primarily out of Norfolk, VA while making his home in Virginia Beach. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1994. His years of service reflected his deep sense of duty, commitment, and patriotism.
While stationed together at Naval Support Activity in Philadelphia, John met his wife, Joanne. They married soon after and shared 46 wonderful years together filled with love, laughter, and devotion to their family.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife Joanne (Rohrer) Drinan; his sons Christopher and his wife Kathleen of Chelmsford, MA, Kevin and his wife Jill of North Attleboro, MA, and Michael and his wife Valerie of Haverhill, MA; and his cherished grandchildren Jason, Eric, Thomas, Evelynn, Rose, Matthew, Zachary, and Cameron. He is also survived by his siblings Stephen and his wife Judy, Susan Ferriera and her partner Kevin Alkins, and Robert along with many nieces and nephews.
Outside of his military career, John found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved collecting baseball cards, following all the Boston sports teams, watching movies, and spending time riding his lawn mower at his home in Treadwell, NY. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family. John also had a gift for conversation and could strike up a friendly discussion with just about anyone willing to chat.John will be remembered for his warmth, humor, dedication to his family, and his ability to make connections wherever he went. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, Haverhill, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery with U.S. Navy Honors will be held privately. For guestbook, visit www.driscollcares.com
