HAVERHILL - Joan Elizabeth (Coffin) Ladd entered into rest early in the morning of January 9, 2019 in Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts.
She was born on April 8, 1934 in Groveland, Massachusetts to Harold Foster Coffin and Josephine (McFadden) Coffin. She spent her early years in Haverhill, MA. where she was raised and educated in the Haverhill Public Schools. After school she lived in Connecticut for 2 years and then returned to Haverhill where she lived for the rest of her life.
In 1957 she married Gordon C. Ladd but later divorced in 1970 without having any children. She, however, was an aunt to 5 nieces and nephews, 12 great-nieces and nephews and 3 great-great nieces and nephews. She loved to travel and took 2 trips to Europe where she visited Germany, France, Italy and England. She also took a car trip around the United States that lasted for 1 month in the summer of 1970 with her sister, Esther and 2 nieces, Nancy and Susanne. She worked for some years at the Western Electric in Andover, MA. She quit in her 30's to become a fulltime artist. She was a lifetime member of both The Haverhill Art Association and The Newburyport Art Association. She was a great 10 pin bowler for years. She was also an avid animal lover and always had at least 1 cat and dog living with her.
Joan is survived by her 2 nieces, Nancy Kreis Sanders and husband Danny of Prosser, WA and Susanne Kreis Penny of Burlington, CO; brother in-law Frank Kreis of Prosser, WA; 3 nephews Donald Coffin and wife Heidi, David Coffin and Danny Coffin and wife Carissa of Washington State; 12 great nieces and nephews, Kathryn (Sanders Lands) Perkins, James Sanders, Christopher Penny, Brandon Penny, Danielle Penny, Riley Coffin, Ella Coffin, Hailee Coffin, Henry Coffin, Logan Coffin, Ryan Coffin and Bradley Coffin; and 3 great-great nieces and nephews, Lily Lands, Dylan Lands and Renae Perkins. She left many great friends including long, long time friends Kate Horton, Dorothy Moskall and Betty Salerone. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold F. and Josephine Coffin; sister Esther (Coffin) Kreis; brother Harold E. Coffin; nephew in-law Norman Penny and long, long time friend Doris Dion.
The family would like to thank all who took care of Aunt Joan in her time of need including the nurses of Country Manor in Newburyport, MA and Shirley Provencher.
