Obituary

Jennifer Ann Chapman-Girouard, 79, a longtime Haverhill resident, passed peacefully at home on Friday, April 17, 2026.

Born on May 11, 1946, daughter of the late William (Bill) Henry Chapman and Amy Ada (Brown) Chapman, Jennifer was raised in Bulwell, Nottingham, England.

Jennifer attended The Manning School in Nottingham where she excelled in sports. She enjoyed going with her Dad to his allotment to grow vegetables as well as volunteering with him at the nearby farm doing chores.

Jennifer came to the United States in her early twenties and worked as a nanny in Connecticut. She would often return home to the U.K. for a visit but always came back to the United States.

A waitress in the Mount Snow, VT area, then off to New Orleans to work as a Members Representative for the Better Business Bureau, real estate manager, then sales representative with Roland Safe Company. Traveling north to Boston, MA she became a Service Team Leader for Legal Seafoods, followed by becoming a sales representative for Canine Fence Company. Jennifer enjoyed working with many dogs and their owners to improve safety for all. Jennifer was honored each year with the Presidents Club Sales Award for the five years she worked for Canine Fence.  Finally, she was a sales representative for Mancini Safe Company. Jennifer also held real estate brokers licenses in Louisiana and Massachusetts.

Jennifer immersed herself in volunteering for the Haverhill Trails Committee. She joined the Haverhill Garden Club and actively participated in maintaining the city's gardens. Jennifer enjoyed gardening, hiking, and playing tennis. She returned home to the UK where she enjoyed a very active social schedule, visiting family, friends and enjoying time at her caravan located on the side of the River Derwent in Derbyshire. Jennifer loved travelling to see her brother, John, a professional entertainer, perform at the working-man's clubs.

Jennifer loved life, animals, music, and dance. Enjoying every seasonal activity, such as snowshoeing, skiing, hiking, spending hours at the beach strolling and swimming. Spending time in Autumn at her timeshare in Southwest Harbor, ME, hiking and touring around the Bold Coast and Acadia. An avid fan of sports, her home team Nottingham Forest FC. A season ticket holder for the New Orleans Saints ("Who Dat?"), All the Boston sports teams especially her love for the New England Patriots. Jennifer attended the Super Bowl XXXVI where the Pats won their first Superbowl, then saw them at Wembley Stadium in London.

Heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in Jennifer's care throughout her journey with Alzheimer's Disease.  Jennifer faced this disease with courage, grace and dignity while enjoying and fully participating in support groups, leading everyone in song and sharing happiness. By participating in innovative programs such as the It Takes A Herd program, a dementia friendly equine assisted program, to participating in the Run For The Troops walk, as well as the Walk to End Alzheimer's, Jennifer positively impacted so many by not allowing Alzheimer's to define her, singlehandedly helping reduce the stigma of Alzheimer's.

Jennifer will always be remembered for her infectious smile and radiant personality. Jennifer would often say a local colloquial greeting in the Nottingham area, "Ay Up Me Duck" (which means "Hello my dear") and when leaving "Ta Ra Me Duck" ("Goodbye my dear").

Jennifer was the cherished wife of David, her devoted husband and partner for 32 years. Surviving family members include sister-in-law, June Chapman of Nottingham, nephew Michael Chapman (Anita), London, David Chapman (Sarah), Saltair, Yorkshire, daughter-In Law of Mary Girouard, Haverhill, MA, sisters-in-law Anne Cerami (Joe), Windham, NH, Claire Lewis (Richard), Wilmot, NH, Alice Girouard, Amesbury, MA, Emilie Donnelly (Bruce), Jacksonville, FL, Elaine DeVito, Haverhill, MA, brother-in-law Arthur (Picky), Mansfield, TX, and many nieces and nephews.
