Jay K. Enstad, 68, passed away at Beth Israel Hospital on September 3, 2025. He was a resident of Boston, a city he loved. Jay was a graduate of Winchester High School and Brandeis University.
Jay was an avid reader, a lifelong music lover and a Boston history enthusiast. His interest in politics found him working on local and national campaigns. Above all, he believed in helping those who were unable to help themselves.
Jay was born in Glencoe, Minnesota. He is predeceased by his father, Luther W. Enstad. Jay is survived by his mother, Sonja Enstad of Groveland, his sister Mary Beth Cohen (Andrew) of Haverhill, niece Martha (David) Carraher of Zanesville, OH and nephew, Patrick McDonald, of Reading.
Jay's employment history was in keeping with his interests. He oversaw purchasing and running the classical music department at Tower Records. He was also employed by the Boston University Law School where he assisted lawyers with their pro bono cases. Jay volunteered as a tour guide for Boston on Foot as well as for the Boston Harbor Islands.
Throughout Jay's lengthy illnesses and medical complications, he never complained or lost his sense of humor. He was a master of puns.
