Obituary

HAMPTON, NH: Herbert M. Law, 80, formerly of Haverhill, died Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009, at the Oceanside Nursing Home after a long illness. He leaves his beloved wife Rose Marie (Martelli) Jenkins Law.

Born in Haverhill on July 30, 1928, Mr. Law was the son of the late Milton M. and Bernice (Ladieu) Law. He graduated from Haverhill High and Trade School majoring as an Electrician. Living most of his life in the Haverhill area he later moved to Portsmouth and Hampton, NH.

Mr. Law had a 32 year career with AT&T (Western Electric) serving as a supervisor, and later as a manager at the VFW in Georgetown for 7 years. He was a professional antique refinisher and dealer, and owned stores in downtown Haverhill where his amiable and trustworthy nature made him highly liked and successful. He also held Pawn Shop and Auctioneer Licenses.

Mr. Law was a Korean War Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was involved in flight instruction in Naval Operations at the Great Lakes and Annapolis, Maryland Naval Training Centers.

Mr. Law helped a stranded piano/guitarist player playing in a small Lowell band, and they became friends and they practiced and played musical instruments together. The friend later went on to become the well known entertainer Conway Twitty.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter Jayne and her husband Kenneth Baruck of San Diego, CA, his brother David M. Law and his wife Marie of Bermuda Run, NC, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Milton and Robert Law.

The funeral service Wednesday April 15th, at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill will be private. Interment at Hilldale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Rockingham VNA & Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, NH 03833.
