Obituary

Haverhill: Harry M. Saltzman, 89, former Haverhill police detective, passed away on March 26, 2017 at the Ocala Memorial Regional Hospital while staying with his daughter in Ocala, FL.

Born in Haverhill on August 19, 1927, he was the son of the late Harry W. and Sarah E. "Nellie" (Legge) Saltzman.

Mr. Saltzman was educated in Haverhill and graduated from Haverhill High School. During the war he served with the U.S. Army as a member of the 121st Station Hospital, and was honorably discharged as a T/5 in 1947. Mr. Saltzman worked as a turner in the city's wood heel industry for Ornstein Wood Heel. He then joined the Haverhill Police Department where he was promoted to become one of the city's first detectives. He enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid hunter, and was a member of the Haverhill Rod & Gun Club.

Mr. Saltzman is survived by his daughter, Michel Saltzman of Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Michael M. Emery of Lake City, FL, Season Hitchcock of Salem, NH; three great granddaughters; one great great grandson; sister, Theresa Straw, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George Saltzman, James Saltzman and Melvin Saltzman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, April 29th, at 10:00 a.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Interment at Walnut Cemetery. Calling hours on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
