HAVERHILL: Gwendolyn I. "Gwen" (Haynes) Stuart, 90, passed away on February 19, 2020 at Wingate of Haverhill. She was the wife of the late Donald A. Stuart.
Born in Haverhill on July 13, 1929, she was the daughter of the late George W.C. and Alta I. (Kimball) Haynes.
Gwen was educated in Haverhill and graduated from Haverhill High School. Her work career spanned many years to include King's Dept. Store, Foss Manufacturing, Destiny Publishing and Julie's Van Service. For many year she volunteered at the former Hale Hospital. As a member of West Congregational Church she reinforced her deep faith in God which provided direction to her life. She enjoyed country music, especially Gene Autry, her "handiwork" of needlework, crochet, knitting and quilting.
Gwen is survived by her children, Brian L. Stuart and wife Moira of Hampton, NH, Fred J. Stuart and wife Marcia of Haverhill, Alan G. Stuart of Haverhill; grandchildren, Andrea Stuart, Anthony Alvino, Katherine Kennedy; eight great grandchildren; sister, Norma Taplin of Dracut and several nieces and nephews. Gwen was the sister of the late Velma Reid. The family would like to extend their appreciation for the dedicated and compassionate care provided to Gwen by Wingate Residence, Wingate SNF, West River Hospice, Merrimack Valley Elder Services and Griswold Home Care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Monday, February 24th at 12:00 noon, at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill. Calling hours will precede the funeral from 10:00 to 11:45. Interment in the spring at Hillside Cemetery.
