HAVERHILL: Gretchen A. (Page) Caswell, 85, departed from her earthly home to dwell in eternity with her Lord and Master, Jesus Christ, on October 4, 2019 at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport. Gretchen was the wife of the late John Mackie Caswell.
Born in Haverhill on April 30, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Robert Franklin Page and Alfredda Quimby Page Starbird. .
Gretchen graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1952, and continued her education earning her Licensed Practical Nurse degree from Lawrence Vocational Technical School. Gretchen worked in the Psychiatric Unit at the former Bon Secour Hospital, for the City of Haverhill at the former Hale Hospital, and prior to her retirement in 1993, she worked as charge nurse in the Alzheimer's Unit at the former Glynn Memorial Hospital.
Gretchen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William Robert and Theresa Elaine Caswell of East Kingston, NH; three grandchildren, William Floyd Mackie Caswell of Newmarket, NH, Jenessa Elaine and husband Stan Kornacki of Tewksbury, MA, and John Robert Joseph Caswell of Salem, NH; great granddaughter, Ayna Grace Kornacki; sister, Carol Joann Page Campoli of Derry, NH, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her God-son, James William McDonald of Manchester, NH and her longtime and beloved companion, Robert Carlton Estes, Jr. of Haverhill.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, October 10th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Friday, October 11th at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 217 Main Street, Haverhill. Interment at Linwood Cemetery will be private.
