GROVELAND - Greta (Hood) Davis, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley in Haverhill, surrounded by family and friends. She was a resident of Groveland since 1951, and was married for 58 years to Walter Davis Jr., who died in 2010.

She was born February 16, 1929, in Spencer, daughter of the late William T. and Mary (Spooner) Hood. Greta's family moved to Groveland Street in Haverhill when she was two years old. She came from a very good Christian home where all the members of the family were active in the First Baptist Church.

Greta graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1946, and went on to graduate from MacIntosh Business College. While attending college she worked as a secretary for the First Baptist Church in Haverhill. Greta met the love of her life, Walter, while she was an office worker at Smith Chevrolet Buick Co. In 1951, they were married and moved to California. She was employed in the County of Orange auditor's office until Walter was discharged from the Marines. Greta worked for the Avon Company for 40 years before retiring in 2003.

In 2004, they moved to Nichols Village in Groveland and shared their lives with the staff and many residents who became dear friends to them. She enjoyed reading, swimming, square dancing, playing card games, rummikub and was on two bowling leagues for many years.

Greta was predeceased by her siblings Gerald, Shirley, Richard and Beverly Hood.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Susan and husband Charles O'Neill, and Elaine Vaillancourt and partner Leon Artus; grandchildren, Kate Lynne Reilly and partner Jason Chamberlain, Charles Davis O'Neill and wife Lisa, Jeanne Pearce and husband Matthew, Gregory Vaillancourt and wife Sarah; great-grandchildren, Vaughan Vaillancourt, Kaydence Pearce, Alyza Vaillancourt; several nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Greta's Life will be held Saturday afternoon, January 3, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street (Rte. 125), Bradford from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.
