Obituary

HAVERHILL: Gladys (Heath) Jones, 97, died peacefully on March 24, 2010 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. Mrs. Jones was the wife of the late Woodrow W. Jones.

Born in Hampstead, NH to one of the town's founding families on June 1, 1912, Mrs. Jones was the daughter of the late Charles and Effie A. (Senter) Heath.

Following her graduation from Hampstead High School, Mrs. Jones began her career in Haverhill's shoe industry working as a stitcher in various companies including Brocton Stay on Wingate Street before retiring. This was accomplished while caring for her ill husband. Upon her retirement she accompanied her friends traveling to places such as California and Hawaii. She had an active mind that was stimulated by reading and doing crossword puzzles. Mrs. Jones family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for the kindness and care given to her by the staff of Newbury Wing at The Oxford, Merrimack Valley Hospice House, and Elder Services of Merrimack Valley.

She is survived by her caregivers, grand niece and grand nephew Sharon Colby and Steven Jones of Haverhill, and cousin Valjean Anderson of Hampstead, NH; other cousins, grand nieces and nephews, and her longtime best friend Mary Kanges of Haverhill.

Friends are invited to the funeral Monday, March 29th, at 11:00 a.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Calling hours will precede the funeral from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment at Linwood Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be given to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack Street, Bldg., Lawrence, MA 01843.
