HAVERHILL: Garry K. "Big G" Wood, 60, oldest of nine children, died suddenly on July 7th.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Harold E. and Joyce (Smith) Wood.

Following his graduation from Haverhill High School in 1966 he continued his education at UMASS Lowell graduating with a BA in Business Administration. He served two tours in Viet Nam as Chaplain Assistant with the HQ CO, 1st BN, 4th Infantry Div. before his discharge as a SP5. His many awards included the VN Cross of Gallantry with palms and VCM with two overseas bars. He had worked for twenty-five years as an auditor with the IRS in North Andover. He was a member of Amvets Post 147, dedicated weightlifter at Choice Fitness, and a twenty-five year friend of Bill W and Doctor Bob.

He is survived by his siblings Rodney S. "Rod" Wood, Philip M. "Pep" Wood and wife Patricia, Harold E. "Bud" Wood, Jr. and wife Kathy, Craig M. Wood and wife Diane, Cindy J. Wood-Tierney, Donald J. Wood, Jaimie S. Wood, all of Haverhill, Tracy S. Wood and wife Ruth of Danville, NH, aunt Shirley of Maryland, aunt Shirley and uncle Less, aunt Ruth and uncle Philip of England, uncle Donald and aunt Midge of Plaistow, and many cousins, nieces and nephews in the US and England.

Friends are invited to the graveside memorial service July 11th 2:00 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery, Groveland. Calling hours at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill Thursday 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 177 Ward Hill Ave., Haverhill, MA 01835.
