(Hardy) Munroe
June 20, 1906 – December 30, 2011
HAMPSTEAD, NH: Frances O. (Hardy) Munroe, 105, and a fifty-seven year resident of Hampstead, passed away on December 30, 2011 at Wingate at Haverhill. Mrs. Munroe was the wife of the late Gordon S. Munroe who died in 1965.
Born in Annapolis, Nova Scotia, Canada on June 20, 1906, Mrs. Munroe was the daughter of the late George A. and Bertha Mae (Longmire) Hardy.
Mrs. Munroe was educated at the Annapolis Royal High School in Nova Scotia, Canada, and came to the United States in the early 19 20's. She was a member of the Hampstead Congregational Church where she held various positions including treasurer and vice-president of the Women's Club, and she attended the Drop-in-Center. She was a member of the Extension through the State of New Hampshire, and assisted the Civic Club with numerous bean suppers to raise money for the Hampstead Memorial Gymnasium. In 2004 Mrs. Munroe was presented the Boston Post Cane as the town's oldest citizen, and remained custodian until her death. Frances was a lover of quotes and saying and memorized many. She was always quick to respond with one of her favorites.
Mrs. Munroe is survived by her daughter, Shirley Waters of Hampstead; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren and two nieces. She was the mother of the late George B. Munroe.
The service at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill will be private with interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Hampstead Congregational Church, 61 Main Street, Hampstead, NH 03841.
