ANDOVER - Esther Morse Parson, 93, a longtime resident of Andover, died peacefully with her daughters by her side on April 19, 2017, at Ashland Farm, North Andover. She was born on May 3, 1923, in Boston, the eldest child of Thomas and Eleanor Morse. Esther grew up in Cambridge and Belmont. She attended Shady Hill School, Buckingham School, and Radcliffe College. Esther married Stephen P. Parson. They were later divorced. Happy summers were spent growing up in Blue Hill, ME and, after her marriage, in Brooklin, ME. Those summer days were filled with tennis and sailing, rowing and morning skinny dips. Later in life she delighted in her long daily walks. Esther had a lifelong love for animals and was never without at least one dog or cat. She was an avid reader and disdained television. An anglophile at heart, she fiercely defended the use of proper grammar and clear pronunciation of the English language. She was a lifelong Democrat, interested in politics and involved with The League of Women Voters. She volunteered with AVIS conservation and at the Pike School Library. She also worked for a time at The Andover Bookstore. Esther was preceded in death by her sister, Hope Wallingford of Medfield, as well as her brothers, Thomas R. Morse of Boxborough, Hugh Morse of Topsham, ME, and her daughter Hope Parson Heister of Portland, ME. She leaves her daughters Bridget Saltonstall (James) of Carlisle, Margaret Parson of Goleta, CA, Esther Parson (Stephen Strand) of Jamestown, CO, 2 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, as well as her devoted caretakers who lovingly and expertly enhanced the quality of her life in her declining years. In accordance with Esther's wishes, there will be no services. As a remembrance, please take a long walk and enjoy nature's peace and beauty.
