BEDFORD, NH - Ernest V. Young, 89, of Bedford, NH, formally of Bradford, died Thursday March 7, 2024.
He was born in Bay Shore, Long Island, NY on March 5, 1935, the son of Ernest V. Young Sr. and Mary M. (Dowd) Young. Mr. Young was educated in New York graduating from Smithtown High School, class of 1953. He graduated from Merrimack College in 1957 and was then drafted and served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. He later earned his Masters Degree from Salem State College in 1970.
Ernie worked in education for 36 years and at Haverhill High School from 1969 to 1994. He was known as the man with the camera. He walked the fields, courts, rinks, gyms and slopes at HHS sporting events taking pictures for more than 20 years and donating them to local papers for publication or to the students themselves. He was a man of many interests and hobbies who had a very inquisitive mind. He was very generous with his time and talent.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Mary Beaumont, brother Robert Young and his loving wife of 50 years Barbara A. (Coughlin) Young. He is survived by his children; daughter and son in-law, Dr. Cheryl A. and Dr. William J. Ennis of Nashua, NH; sons and daughters in-law, Michael Young and Catherine J. Cantwell of Newburyport, and Brian K. and Rosanna Young of Franklin. Loving grandchildren; Rosmin Ennis, Nathaniel Ennis, Nola and Mike Ennis-Weiss, Alexandra Young-Avery and Patrick Avery, and Riley Young.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 13, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Services will begin Thursday in the funeral home at 9:00 AM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 S. Main Street, Haverhill at 10:00 AM. Interment with U.S. Army Honors will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
