HAVERHILL: Eleanor F. (Ells) (Goodrich) Sample, 95, died Thursday morning at Penacook Place. She was the wife of the late Frank W. Goodrich and William B. Sample.

Born in Saugus on January 12, 1914, Mrs. Sample was the daughter of the late Lemuel W. and Ethel (Holmes) Ells. Mrs. Sample was a graduate of the Rittners School of Floral Design in Boston. She was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and the Bradford Country Club. Mrs. Sample was an accomplished whistler, and with that talent in 1933 had hosted "Whistling Sally" on Radio Station WHEB in Portsmouth, NH. For twenty-three years she had worked in the Dietary Department at the former Hale Hospital before retiring in 1973. Her interests varied and included sports such as golf at Bradford Country Club, swimming, and bowling. She was an accomplished painter, and her interest in music played a significant role in her life.

She is survived by her daughters, Virginia Lee Smith and her husband Fred of Haverhill, Gail Craver and her husband Donald R. of Hartville, OH, Marilyn Chaput of Kingston, NH; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; sister, Thelma Heddemon of Atkinson, and niece, Caroline Amazeen and her husband Paul of Ohio. She was the sister of the late Warren H. Ells, and sister-in-law of the late Alice Ells.

The arrangements are under the direction of Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. A memorial service will be held in June at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.
