Obituary

HAVERHILL - Eleanor (Joe) Atwood, 84, lifelong resident of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, June 22, 2013, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill.

Mrs. Atwood was born in Haverhill on May 9, 1929, daughter of the late Alfred Gilbert Joe and Laura (George) Joe. She attended Haverhill schools. After High School, she married the love of her life, C. Robert Atwood, who passed in 2000. On the day of her passing, June 22, was their 66th wedding anniversary.

After marriage, they started their family while both working for his family's grocery store, Atwood Bros. She began her career with the Haverhill Public School System, always working at Central Office with 40 years of dedicated service to the City until her retirement in 2000.

Some of Mrs. Atwood's activities included her love for snowmobiling, which she shared with her husband. After his passing she continued to snowmobile thorough her mid 70's, especially in Colebrook, NH; they also summered at Lake Winnipesaukee with Mrs. Atwood being drawn to any ocean and lake.

Longtime resident of Kenoza Street in Haverhill's East Parish Section. She served for many years with her husband with the Walnut Cemetery Association in her neighborhood.

Her surviving family members include her loving daughters, Linda Kiefer and her husband Karl of Haverhill and Sally Quinn and her husband Joseph of Haverhill; cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey K. Kiefer and his wife Ella Poisson, Jennifer R. Marasco and her husband John and Jessica Quinn; great-grandchildren, Kyle Kiefer, Abigail Marasco and Camden Marasco; in-laws, Curina Atwood wife of the late Donald J. and Betty Smith and her husband Arthur; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Funeral services and burial in the Atwood family lot of Walnut Cemetery will be privately held. Arrangements are under the care of Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, Bradford, (978) 374-0000.

Contributions in Mrs. Atwood's memory may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Avenue, Haverhill, MA 01830.
