HAVERHILL: Edward G. McIntyre, 80, of Haverhill, passed away on July 13, 2019 after a courageous battle with several medical conditions. He was born in Ipswich, MA on July 1, 1939, to the late Alvah Delmont and Grace Putnam (Heald) McIntyre.
Edward served in the U.S. Marine Corps before working most of his career with Essex County Gas Company. Later he worked as a field engineer and chief inspector with firms associated with the liquid natural gas industry. His later work prompted extensive travel as far south as Peru. He was heavily involved in the community having served as president of the North Shore Figure Skating Club and the Riverside-Bradford Little League. He was the former scoutmaster at Haverhill's Troop 12 and served on the board of directors at Camp Rotary in Boxford and the Glynn Memorial Alzheimer's Hospital.
Edward was a devoted husband and proud father who delighted in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed many winters in Palm Springs, California and summers at Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester.
Edward is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary A. (Parks) McIntyre; one daughter, Malia A. McIntyre of Merrimac, MA; two sons and their spouses: Michael and LeeAnn of Methuen, MA and Merit and Jennifer of Haverhill, MA. He is also survived by two sisters, Virginia Morin and Lottie Seavey, and a brother-in-law Edward S. Parks II; six grandchildren: Katelyn, Stephanie, Crystal, Henry, Grace, Kayleigh; and two great-grandchildren: Isla and Deaken. Edward also leaves behind an extended family and many close friends. He was predeceased by one brother, Alvah D. McIntyre, Jr. and three sisters, Rita Smith, Gertrude Laslie, and Alice McDermott as well as his dear friend and brother-in-law, Shelden A. Seavey, Jr.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours from 4:00 to 7:00pm. on Thursday, July 18, 2019, at the Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. MA. A private service will be conducted at a later time. Memorial contributions in Edward's name can be made to High Pointe House, 360 North Ave., Haverhill, MA, for whom the family is most grateful.
