HAVERHILL: Edward M. Brawley, Jr., 94, formerly of Peabody, passed away unexpectedly on December 19, 2016 at Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley. Mr. Brawley was the husband of R. Joan (DuCharme) Brawley.
Born in Medford on November 19, 1922, Mr. Brawley was the son of the late Edward M. and Mary E. (King) Brawley.
Following his graduation from Holy Cross College he completed many courses of study at Harvard University, and received his Master's Degree from Salem State University.
During the war he served in the U.S. Army with the 489thAnti-Aircraft Artillery AW Battalion. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe before his Honorable discharge as T/4 in in 1945.
Mr. Brawley taught the eleventh and twelfth grade at Peabody High School for a period of 40 years. During this time he was President of Burnham Industries, an advertising and consulting firm. He was an active member of The Knights of Columbus advancing to the Fourth Degree, and a member of the American Legion.
Besides his wife of 48 years he is survived by nieces, Shelley Doyle, Mary Mahoney, Rosemary Boudreau and Karen Pelletier. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry M. Brawley and sisters, Rosemary Frisch and Claire E. Whalen.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather Friday, December 23, 2016, at 9:00 a.m., at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Church. Calling hours Thursday from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. Interment at Linwood Cemetery.
