Obituary

GALESBURG, IL: Earl C. Sargent, 96, died September 25th at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Mr. Sargent was the husband of the late Verna (Seaman) Sargent whom he married in 1940, and who preceded him in death in 1997.

Born in Haverhill May 23, 1911, Mr. Sargent was the son of the late Gilbert G. and Clara A. (Bell) Sargent.

Educated in Haverhill he graduated from Haverhill High School in the class of 1930. During the war he served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Sargent worked as a laborer and mechanic at the former Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corp. in Galesburg for 30 years until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the International Association of Machinists Union.

He is survived by Peggy Lee Carter of Newport News, VA, who was raised in the Sargent's home. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Funeral services were held in Illinois. Burial at Linwood Cemetery. Local arrangements by Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill.
