NORTH ANDOVER: Dorothy V. (Osborne) Day, 95, formerly of Bradford and Boxford, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 2, 2018 at The Meadows at Edgewood. Mrs. Day was the wife of the late Franklin E. Day with whom she celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Born in Tilton, NH on April 9, 1923, Mrs. Day was the daughter of the late John F. and Rena A. (Payne) Osborne.
Upon graduating from Pittsfield High School, Class of 1941, she enrolled in the Elliot Hospital Training School in Manchester, NH and earned her certificate as a Registered Nurse in 1944. Additionally, she completed the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital School of X-Ray Technology in 1947.
Mrs. Day began a rewarding thirty-six year career in nursing that began at the Exeter Hospital in NH. Following her marriage she joined Franklin in Bradford where she worked at the former Hale Hospital for 16 years. She then accepted a position as school nurse for the City of Haverhill providing dedicated care to students at John Greenleaf Whittier School and Caleb Dustin Hunking School. After retiring in 1980 she moved to 4 Mile Village in Boxford.
Mrs. Day attended Second Congregational Church in West Boxford. She and her husband enjoyed travelling, and wintering in Panama City Beach in FL.
Mrs. Day, the eldest of seven children, is survived by her son, John E. Day and his wife Margaret of Greenville, SC; daughter, Virginia D. Hardin and her husband Roy of The Villages, FL; grandchildren, Caroline V. Dale and her husband Craig of Buford, GA, Jessica L. Day, J. Andrew Day and his wife Carrie of Charlotte, NC, Peter F. Day of Truckee, CA; ten great grandchildren; siblings, David Osborne and his wife Louise of Pittsfield, NH, Priscilla Bechok of Newport Beach, CA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Second Congregational Church, 173 Washington St., West Boxford, MA.
