Lebet
April 19, 1931 – September 4, 2022
IPSWICH, MA: David P. Lebet, 91, passed away on September 4, 2022. He was born in Hingham to Louis D. Lebet and Emma Lewis Atwood. The family moved to Haverhill, where his father's family had lived since the 1900's. David graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover and received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. He met his wife, Mary Patterson, a Hunter College student, at a Newman Center dance. They married in 1954 and he worked with various local companies including Avco and GE, before moving to Sunnyvale, CA for a job with Stanford University at their linear accelerator (SLAC). While there, he received an MS in Engineering and studied Computer Science.
The family then moved to Adelphi, MD, when he took a job at the University of Maryland cyclotron, and then later relocated to Ipswich in the 1980's to work for Scanditronix, a company based in Vislanda, Sweden. He enjoyed a multitude of hobbies including gardening, playing the recorder, woodworking and building model planes and boats, as well as wooden trains for his grandchildren, crosswords and trying to win the lottery. He loved living on Hood Pond and enjoyed sailing, canoeing, and watching the changing seasons. David was a 70-year member of Saggahew Lodge A.F. & A.M. (Masons), a 69-year member of the York Rite, Pentucket Royal Arch Chapter, a member Shriner's Aleppo Temple, and a 64-year member of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.
David is survived by his six children; Philip (Deena), Ruth, Andrew (Kathleen), Susan Heichert (Richard), Judy, and Peter (Judy); his six grandchildren, Kyle (Katy), Caroline Lebet (Cole Reardon), Kelsey Bowen (Nathan), Jake Heichert (Cailin), Bryn and Duncan Lebet; three great grandchildren, Milo and Remy Lebet, and Celia Bowen; and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his wife Mary and his younger brother Philip.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill on Thursday, September 15 th at 12:00 noon. Calling hours will precede the funeral from 10:00 to 12:00 noon. In David's memory donations may be made to the Shriner's Children's Burn Center, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02144.
