Obituary

BRADFORD - Daniel J. Trainor, 73, lifelong resident of Bradford, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2017, with his loving wife Maureen by his side.

Dan was born in Boston on September 13, 1943, son of the late Peter and L. Marie (Donovan) Trainor. He was a graduate of Sacred Hearts School, Central Catholic High School and attended Merrimack College and The University of Maryland.

He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Vietnam Era. Dan continued his service to his country as a Navy Reservist for several years following his discharge.

When Dan returned from the Navy, he began his working career with the American Red Cross organization as an auditor inspecting their operations in Vietnam. He then was employed by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees as an auditor out of Washington D.C. While attending a professional conference, he met the love of his life, his wife of 38 years, Maureen (Hannam) Trainor. They settled in Bradford in his grandfather Dan Donovan's home. Dan finished his career as an auditor for the Commonwealth of MA in the State Auditor's Office, retiring in 2009 after 30 years of service.

Dan was a man of strong faith. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Hearts Parish in Bradford. His activities included being involved with the Bradford Social and Athletic Club, serving as longtime treasurer of the club; also a member of Christ the King Council of the Knights of Columbus, No. 5004. He enjoyed classical music and dancing; loved vacationing with his wife, especially on cruises; enjoyed his dogs over the years, always a Treeing Walker Coonhound. Most of all, Dan was a good and loving man to many and will be greatly missed. His family would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital and the Merrimack Valley Hospice House for the tremendous care they have given Dan over these past several weeks, as well as the love and support of the Parish Staff and Parishioners and friends of Sacred Hearts Church.

His surviving family members include his cherished wife Maureen; loving siblings Dr. Patricia Trainor O'Malley of Bradford and Florida, and Dr. John D. Trainor of FL; brothers in-law Douglas Hannam, Jr. and wife Patricia of Worcester, Kevin Hannam of Worcester; sister in-law Margaret Ross of Nova Scotia; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; brother of the late Kevin Trainor and Brendan Trainor.
