HAVERHILL - Christina (Menounos) Fikis, in the dawning hours of Orthodox Holy Saturday, April 30, our beloved mother was taken into the kingdom of heaven to be with our Lord.

Christina Fikis was born on August 6, 1927 in the village of Leondarion Arkadia, Greece. She was the daughter of the late Nikitas and Penelope (Karallas) Menounos.

She immigrated to Haverhill in 1955 and resided with her Aunt Helen and Uncle Charles Doucacaros, working at Elpis Bakery. She also worked at local shoe factories, Samuel Roberts, and Lucent Technologies from which she retired. She was the wife of the late George Fikis, with whom she raised five children. She was an active member of Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church. She served on the Ladies Philoptochos Society Elpis, was a member of the church choir, and was very active in the annual church festival.

Christina devoted her life to raising her children as she worked tirelessly to instill in them a steadfast belief in the Orthodox faith and traditional Greek culture.

She will be remembered for her selflessness, humility, generosity and for her infectious smile and warmth that touched all who knew her. She was a wonderful cook, and happiest in her kitchen surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She loved music, gardening and traveling with her children.

Her family members include her loving children Xanthie and husband the late Evangelos Lazarakis, Penelope and husband Andreas Orfanos, Joanna and husband Constantine Nifakos, Nikie Fikis and John Fikis; grandchildren Eugenia and husband Bill Dimopoulos, Christina and husband Stefanos Gkoudoulas, Constantine and wife Tifany Lazarakis, Angela and husband Konstantinos Mitsopoulos, Giorgia Lazarakis, George, Maria, and Nicholas Nifakos, Panayiotis Orfanos; eight great-grandchildren; siblings Haralambos Menounos of Greece, Anthony Menounos of Las Vegas, NV and the late Sophia George; and her nieces, Maria George, Penelope and Angela Menounos.

Her Funeral will be held Friday morning, May 6, beginning in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, Haverhill at 10:00 AM. Funeral Service in the Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter Street, Haverhill at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.

Calling hours will be Thursday in the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
