GILFORD, NH: Charles L. (Chuck) Hoyt passed away peacefully on August 1, 2016 at his home on Lake Winnipesaukee.

Chuck was born in 1925 in Haverhill, MA. His parents were Aaron Hoyt of Haverhill, and Eleanor Marianne Lindsay, of Gasp, Quebec. Chuck leaves behind his wife, Betty, his three children: Lindsay of Newburyport, MA, William and his wife Dorothy of New Haven, CT, and Tiffany of Washington, DC. Chuck had four grandchildren: Charlie, Amelia, Hillary and Olivia, whom he loved very much.

In 1944, Chuck fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and spearheaded across the Rhine with the 79th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army.

After the war, he attended graduated school at London Leathersellers Guild in London, England, and then followed in his father's footsteps into the leather business. He owned tanneries in Haverhill, MA, (Hoyt and Worthen Tanning, Corp.), in Goldsboro, NC, Littleton, NH, Omarou, New Zealand, Port au Prince, Haiti, and a textile plant in Brisbane, Australia.

Chuck was the chairman of Haverhill National Bank and Bank of Boston, New England. He was also one of the founders of two shoe component companies: Pandel Bradford and Styletec, which went public in 1969.

Chuck was an avid sportsman. He played golf, tennis, raced powerboats and flew his own helicopter. Throughout his life he skied in Jackson, NH, and fly-fished in Quebec. He was a member of the Grey Oaks Country Club, and North Naples United Methodist Church.

Chuck will rest in Maplewood Cemetery in Atkinson, NH. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Atlantic Salmon Federation asf.ca/main.html, and the New England Ski Museum: newenglandskimuseum.org

Relatives and friends are invited to the calling hours on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill, MA from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m.
